BTC distributes appointment letters to SIU teachers

CORRESPONDENT

KOKRAJHAR, January 23: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) today handed over appointment letters to 1,438 selected teachers in elementary education in the BTC.

Meanwhile, the TET qualified teachers staged a protest programme in front of the Bodofa Cultural Complex where the appointment letters were distributed. The appointment letters were distributed at a ceremonial programme held at Bodofa Cultural Complex in Kokrajhar. BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary attended the function as chief guest and handed over the appointment letters to the selected candidates in presence of BTC executive member in charge of education Derhasat Basumatary and other government officials.

Meanwhile, the All BTC Unemployed TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) Passed Association today staged a protest rally in front of the Cultural Complex demanding appointment of all the remaining TET qualified candidates under BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) while the appointment letters were being distributed to the 1438 selected candidates of 2005–06 as teachers in elementary education in the BTC.

Over a hundred TET qualified teachers carrying placards, festoons and shouting slogans demanded appointments. The TET qualified teachers accused the BTC authority of diverting the 2,125 SIU–cleared posts to appoint the so–called selected candidates of the 2005–06 against the existing rules of appointment under RTE Act–2009. The association stated that 5,709 TET qualified (3501 numbers in Lower Primary and 2208 numbers in Upper Primary) candidates in the BTC region are yet to be appointed. It urged immediate appointment of all the qualified TET candidates at the earliest. It demanded recruitment of the 2125 SIU cleared posts meant for the TET qualified candidates which are already advertised for the TET qualified candidates on 5 February, 2014 and to appoint the remaining qualified candidates contractually under SSA as early as possible. They questioned as to how appointments were given by the BTC to the non–TET qualified teachers when there is no provision for appointment of non–TET candidates at present after activation of RTE.

They stated said that earlier the Director of Education, BTC had said that the 2125 posts could not regularized and the process has been halted as the issue was sub–judice. “It is very unfortunate that they went ahead and distributed appointment letters to the so–called selected candidates of the 2005–06 when the Director of Education had said that the 2125 posts could not be regularized and the process has been halted as the matter was in the court,” said a TET qualified teacher, Sunny Benjamin Narzary expressing his anguish.

Meanwhile the Derhasat Basumatary, BTC executive member said the appointment letters were given as per a judgment by the Supreme Court. He said there was SIU clearance for 2125 posts and appointment were given as per that, he said.

UPTET SARKARI NAUKRI News

Directions: Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow (Q. No. 1 to 9) by selecting the most appropriate option.

Surviving a Snakebite

1 Annually, there are a million cases of snakebite in India and of these, close to 50,000 succumb to the bites.

2 When you look around the countryside, where most bites occur, and notice people's habits and lifestyles, these figures aren't surprising. People walk barefoot without a torch at night when they are most likely to step on a foraging venomous snake.

3 We encourage rodents by disposing waste food out in the open, or by storing foodgrains in the house. Attracted by the smell of rats, snakes enter houses and when one crawls over someone asleep on the floor and the person twitches or rolls over, it may bite in defence.

4 Once bitten, we don't rush to the hospital. Instead, we seek out the nearest conman, tie tourniquets, eat vile tasting herbal chutneys, apply poultices or spurious stones, cut/slice/suck the bitten spot, and other ghastly time-consuming deadly "remedies".

5 As Rom cattily remarks : "If the snake hasn't injected enough venom, even popping an aspirin can save your life." That's the key - snakes inject venom voluntarily and we have no way of knowing if it has injected venom, and if it is a lethal dose. The only first aid is to immobilise the bitten limb like you would a fracture, and get to a hospital for anti-venom serum without wasting time.

(1) When a snake has not injected enough venom, life can be saved even by swallowing an aspirin.

(2) Life can be saved even by swallowing an aspirin, even though the snake hasn't injected enough venom.

(3) Even popping an aspirin can save your life, in spite of a snake not having injected enough venom.
